The “Cognitive Assessment” is a two and half hour appointment. One hour for history, background, record review; one hour for cognitive testing; and 30 minutes for feedback and treatment recommendations. Areas Assessed:
A cognitive assessment differs from a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation by focusing exclusively on areas related to attention and executive functioning. A cognitive assessment is a brief evaluation, often completed in about 90 minutes.
Learning about your strengths and weaknesses related to your attention and executive functioning means that you will be able to have a clearer understanding of your attentional abilities and how they impact your daily life. With this knowledge, individuals are then able to learn strategies for maximizing strengths and minimizing the impact of any weaknesses.
The assessment will take place in a quiet, comfortable office with minimal distractions. The testing environment is standardized and the process of completing tests is systematic.
That it’s not going to hurt! Children respond better when parents are relaxed and convey a positive feeling when providing information. Kids typically don’t need a lot of detail but want just enough so they feel comfortable. Often telling children that “we want to understand how they learn information best” is helpful.
