Our Integrated Treatment Model

ADD Health & Wellness Centers (ADDHW) were created to treat adults and children who suffer from ADD, ADHD, or Learning Disabilities.  It is through a holistic, integrated, and comprehensive multimodal approach to the treatment of these conditions that makes us different from other ADHD treatment specialists and ultimately to the success of our patients.

At ADDHW integration is key to our treatment model and represents our philosophy for treating ADHD, Learning Disabilities and other attentional disorders.  Our Integrated Treatment Model treats the whole client and his/her significant others, including family members, employers and school systems, that may have been affected by/or are affecting the client’s condition. Treatment services include nutritional counseling, coaching, individual/couples/family therapy, parent counseling, Cogmed, social skills training, groups, supplementation, and medication.

A multidisciplinary treatment team will be established specifically for the client who work together to develop, review, and update an individualized treatment plan. As a team, they will monitor the client’s progress and ensure that the client achieves his/her treatment goals. The treatment team also monitors progress at school and/or work, if relevant.  After the initial assessment we retest the client at 2/3 month intervals and all test data is stored in our outcome database which compares recent with previous test data. This allows the team to monitor and change the treatment plan when necessary.

Key Components of our Treatment Model:

  • Accurate diagnosis of ADHD, Learning Disabilities and other attentional disorders.  This is done using clinical interviews, historical data, and standardized tests to identify the source of the client’s problem and whether there are any co-existing disorders present which also need treatment.
  • Simultaneously addressing the many conditions that co-exist with ADHD, Learning Disabilities and other attentional disorders, such as anxiety, sleep problems, mood swings, and learning problems to insure the most successful outcomes.
  • Client self-management which involves a collaborative partnership between the client and treatment providers. The client is directly involved in treatment goal setting, decision-making and management of their disorder through self-management support which includes education, improving problem-solving skills, encouraging healthy behaviors, emotional support, regular and sustained follow-up, and encouraging clients to participate actively in the management of their disorder.
  • Safe practices to minimize harm to the client. These include educating the client regarding risks in treatment with medication; medical screenings prior to prescribing medication; dosing requirements (starting off with a low dosage then gradually adjusting) to minimize side effects and optimize benefits;  carefully monitoring the client’s medical status including weight, height and blood pressure, etc. while they are being treated with medication; and providing a 24-hour contact number to enable the client to reach their psychiatrist if experiencing side effects.
  • Alternatives/Supplements to medication which include the use of nutritional counseling and natural supplements to address symptoms; behavioral treatment plans to change behavior patterns; parenting skills training to facilitate desired behaviors; coaching to build executive functioning skills; computerized brain-training to improve working memory; and individual/group therapy to provide emotional support and facilitate general well-being.
