ADD Health and Wellness' College Preparatory Training course is now available throughout the year and will help high school seniors prepare for the demands and expectations of college before they start and throughout their first year. Learn how certain strategies and skills will help ensure a positive college experience and attribute to improved study habits and overall learning. These skills and strategies will not only help them succeed in college but will provide long-term benefits as they enter the work force and begin careers as successful professionals.

Clients Participate In:

Day 1: Steps to Succeed in College

  • Learn how to have a positive attitude and outlook and avoid negative thinking and obsessing
  • Gain knowledge of academic policies and deadlines
  • Learn how to use good communication skills
  • Learn how to organize yourself and avoid wasting time
  • Understand when to seek help and how to get it

Day 2: Academic Strategies

  • Understand how class attendance is beneficial to learning the material
  • How advance preparation can lead to success in many ways
  • Learn how to get to know your professors and participate in classroom discussions
  • Implement helpful strategies to help you learn the information presented in class
    • Learn strategies and skills of effective note taking, such as what to write and how to organize notes
    • Learn effective time saving strategies for key concepts, major events, theories, etc.

Day 3: Strengthen Executive Functions with Technology

  • Learn successful time management skills - how to keep up with deadlines and projects which will help develop good life skills for the working world
  • How to implement the use of strategies such as using a calendar for assignments, projects and events - tips to help with deadlines, maintain study schedules, due dates, events, etc.
  • How to use technology to assist in college - laptops, online/web-based applications, blackberry/phone calendars, USB key/flash storage devices, blackboard academic/learning suite software, and online libraries

Day 4: Addressing College Classroom Requirements

  • How taking exams is different in college - strategies for successful results and how to deal with disruptions
  • Approaches and tips for studying for lengthier and more complex tests - study schedule, resources, and set realistic expectations
  • Learn the basics to ensure writing strong papers - general ideas and how to get started
