The Earlier the Better when diagnosing and treating ADHD in Preschool Children!

ADHD used to be viewed as a disorder of elementary school children; however, a growing number of health professionals now realize that early diagnosis and intervention at the preschool level are beneficial in preventing major damage of the child’s self-esteem caused by the child feeling like a failure or always being in trouble. The diagnosis and treatment of preschool children however can be problematic for a variety of reasons.

At ADD Health & Wellness Centers, we believe that early identification and intervention of any disorder is essential in helping prevent psychological damage. We have developed a specialized diagnostic approach for preschool children that include in-depth clinical interviews with parents and teachers while completing objective testing using standardized tests specifically designed for preschool children.

Our treatment begins for the preschool child using Parent Skills Training, Behavioral Treatment Plans, Nutritional Counseling, and Social Skills Training. Our Parent Skills Training focuses on education, special strategies to motivate and manage children with ADHD, and positive reinforcement to shape desirable behaviors. An individualized behavioral treatment plan is developed by the Psychologist to shape desirable behaviors and eliminate negative behaviors. Parents and teachers are trained to implement and maintain the plan, which is monitored on a regular basis by the Psychologist through observation and feedback from parents and teachers. Nutritional counseling analyses the child’s diet and provides suggestions that will improve their cognitive functioning and brain development. Our physician will also prescribe specific natural supplements that will enhance brain functioning and growth, in addition to addressing the child’s ADHD symptoms. We also recommend family therapy for families where the child’s symptoms have negatively affected the marital relationship and their relationships with their siblings.
